How to get a Vietnam visa for Australians?

Australian citizens need to apply for a visa if they want to enter Vietnam for all purposes such as tourism, business, investment, visiting relatives, studying, working… However, applying for a Vietnam visa for Australians is not difficult, but if you want the visa application to be convenient, smooth and successful, you need to clearly understand the necessary documents and how to submit the visa. Please refer to this article, visaonline-vn.com would like to share basic but necessary information on how to apply for a Vietnam visa for Australian passport holders, ensuring that your trip to Vietnam goes smoothly.

Common types of Vietnam visas for Australians

According to the regulations of the Vietnamese government, visas issued for Australian include 21 main types: LD1, LD2, DN1, DN2, DL, DH, DT1, DT2, DT3, DT4, TT, VR, SQ, NG1, … Each type of visa symbol is divided according to the purpose of entry; duration; number of entries and visa receiving location. This helps Australians choose and use the appropriate visa type for their entry purpose. Below are the most popular visa types, used and chosen by many Australians when coming to Vietnam:

  • Business visa (symbol DN, including DN1 or DN2): valid for a maximum of 90 days for Australian who come with business and work purposes.
  • Working visa (symbol LD, including LD1, LD2): valid according to the duration of a work permit or exemption of working permit certificate (maximum 2 years), for workers from Australia.
  • Investment visa (symbol DT, include DT1, DT2, DT3, DT4) issued for Australians to contribute capital and invest in Vietnam, with a maximum term of 5 years.
  • Dependent visa (symbol TT or VR) is a type of visa issued to relatives of Australians who working in Vietnam. The visa is valid according to the sponsor’s visa; or issued for Australian married/children of Vietnamese which valid maximum of 3 years.
  • Student visa (symbol DH) issued for Australian students studying at one of the schools/universities in Vietnam.
  • Tourist visa (symbol DL) issued for Australians come to Vietnam with tourist purpose. The validity of a DL visa does not exceed 90 days, and normally can get 30 days.
  • E-visa is also known as an electronic visa (E-visa) issued for Australians for many purposes of entry including: labor, work, tourism, visiting relatives, transit, business, investment, teaching, volunteer…. with a validity of no more than 90 days.

How many ways to apply Vietnam visa for Australians? 

Before submitting the visa application, the Australian applicants need to check the passport validity and has at least 2 blank pages. Australian citizens can apply for a Vietnam visa in the following 2 ways:

1, Apply for E-visa online

Australians can apply for this type of visa by yourself on the website of the Vietnam Immigration Department. The steps to apply for an Evisa online are as follows:

  1. Access the website: https://thithucdientu.gov.vn or https://evisa.gov.vn.
  2. Enter the required information, including: passport date page, newly taken photo, personal and travel information, expected entry time, visa duration, entry and exit check point…
  3. Select the purpose of entry, and fill in the information related to the purpose of entry such as for working purpose, you need to fill in the name, phone number and address of the company that you’re going to work with.
  4. Re-check the information filled in.
  5. Pay the E-visa fee and wait for visa result.

APPLY NOW 

Processing time: usually within 03 working days after paying the e-visa fee with complete and valid information. However, if the application needs to be verified by the Police Department, you will receive the result within 03 to 15 working days.

Some notes about E-visa:

  • When filling in information, Australians or other foreigners need to provide the intended border gate of entry. However, you can use the E-visa result to enter a different point of entry, for example you submitted entry at Tan Son Nhat airport but later you can use E-visa to enter Noi Bai airport, Da Nang airport… (list of ports that allow foreigners to enter and exit Vietnam by the E-visa).
  • All passport information displayed on the E-visa must be absolutely correct. Australians may be denied entry if the authorities detect incorrect information on the visa.

2, Apply for visa through a sponsor

The sponsor in Vietnam can contact the Immigration Department to request an entry approval letter (not a full visa yet) for Australians, especially suitable for the following purposes: work, business, investment, visiting relatives, studying… and even tourism. To obtain an entry approval letter, the sponsor and Australians applicant need to:

  • Australians need to provide passport information, and expected time of entry.
  • Agree on the place to receive the visa (international border gate of entry (which airport, land border gate); diplomatic missions of Vietnam (Embassy in Canberra, Consulate General in Perth, Consulate General in Sydney) or the country where the applicant is residing.
  • Provide documents appropriate to the purpose of entry to request the entry approval letter (if any). For example, entry approval letter for visiting relatives for Australians requires documents proving the relationship (birth certificate; marriage certificate, etc.); an entry approval letter for tourism for Australians tourists requires information on hotel reservations, air tickets, etc.

After providing all the required information, the sponsoring unit will proceed to request an entry approval letter for the Australians. The normal processing time is 3-5 working days.

Once the results are available, the Australians needs to:

  • Bring a photocopy of this letter to the diplomatic missions of Vietnam or go to the border gate of entry when coming Vietnam to submit and receive the full visa sticker. Don’t forget to bring two 4×6 photos with white background, bare head, no glasses, face looking straight and visa stamping fee.

How much does a Vietnam visa cost for Australians?

The cost of applying for a Vietnam E-visa for Australians citizens is 25 USD for a single-entry and 50 USD for a multiple-entry visa.

For the entry approval letter, the stamping fee for Australian passport holders will vary depending on the visa duration (3 months, 6 months, 1 year, etc.) and according to the regulations of the diplomatic missions of Vietnam.

Currently, the visa stamping fee at Vietnam international airport is regulated as follows:

  • 25 USD for a single-entry visa with a maximum validity of no more than 90 days.
  • 50 USD for a multiple-entry visa with a maximum validity of no more than 90 days.
  • 95 USD for a multiple-entry visa with a validity of 90 – 179 days.
  • 135 USD for a multiple-entry visa, valid for 180 days – 1 year.
